Herondale Care Home is a short walk from the town centre of Acle, Norfolk. The existing centre which occupies the site has been redundant for a number of years and become vacant.
Since the closure of the existing facility Norfolk County Council have introduced a new model for provision of Extra Care Housing in Norfolk. The model is to allow people over the age of 55 to remain independent within the local community whilst having the care and support provision made available to them as and when they require it.
The proposal seeks to demolish the existing single storey building and replace this with a new 58-unit apartment block comprising of 1 and 2 bedroom flats. These will be a mixture of affordable rent and shared ownership all for people over the age of 55.
The proposal provides a new highly innovative building with a gentle contemporary approach which is fitting within a rural surrounding of a traditional market town.
