Ingleton Wood’s multi-discipline healthcare team were appointed as architect, MEP engineer and contract administrator to remodel and reconfigure the existing maternity theatres at Hammersmith Hospital (Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital) to achieve greater clinical and infection control compliance.
An extensive programme of multi-phased refurbishment was designed, in order to allow at least one theatre to remain in use for the delivery of babies. This resulted in a complex series of alterations to increase scrub, gowning and dirty utility facilities. The theatres themselves were dated, lacking in infection control compliance, electrical resilience and also needed a full refurbishment with new surgeons’ panels, pendants and lighting.
This was a challenging project in part of a busy hospital where change and alterations are difficult to accommodate. However, with the collaboration of the entire project team and clinical stakeholders, this project was handed over successfully to much acclaim.
